Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC)
The Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) lets nurses licensed in compact states practice in other participating compact states without having to obtain additional licenses.
This system increases job opportunities for travel nurses and provides crucial access to care for patients.
In July 2017, the NLC enacted several changes to its roster of states, which were officially implemented in January 2018. In the wake of those changes and as participating states continue to shift since, it’s important to stay up to date on which states are compact, not compact, pending legislation, or awaiting implementation.
You can refer to this map or these FAQs from the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) for current info on the NLC.
Please contact your recruiter with any questions about the NLC.
