UPDATED: After the devastation of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, we have updated our list to include local organizations as well as national and international.
We've compiled a list of some organizations to which you can donate money and goods, but there are many more out there.
Center for Disaster Philanthropy
Community Federation of the Virgin Islands (CVFI)
Send Relief and Southern Baptist Disaster Relief (SBDR)
Greater Houston Community Foundation
Episcopal Relief & Development
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance
Unidos Por Puerto Rico (United for Puerto Rico)
United Methodist Committee on Relief
Portlight Strategies helps those with disabilities and says it has received urgent requests from people in need.
Texas Diaper Bank and Save the Children also take matieral donations, but be sure to check their needs lists first.
If you can donate your time to relief efforts, take a look at National Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD). Some states have their own branches as well.
You can also donate blood at the American Red Cross.
The SPCA of Texas and Austin Pets Alive! have rescued hundreds of animals so far and are in desperate need of your help. For more on how to help pets affected, try these:
Humane Society of Puerto Rico (site is in Spanish)
Second Chance Animal Rescue of Puerto Rico
There are many food banks you can donate to as well. Cash donations, rather than food, are better in that they allow the food banks to use your donation as efficiently as possible. Here is a list:
Banco de Alimentos de Puerto Rico
Food Bank of the Golden Crescent
Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida
Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida
Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley
CareStaf hopes that you can help those in need after the devastation of the recent hurricanes, just as we have been helping our clients for over 25 years.
